STEAMBOAT ROCK STATE PARK:  Join us for a guided walk to the top of the mesa.  Enjoy spectacular views, the varying flora of Eastern Washington and possibly sighting the local deer population and scaring up a grouse or two.

START TIME:  10:00 - 10:30 a.m.
LOCATION:  Steamboat Rock State Park (Discover Pass required),  northernmost parking area closest to the Rock.
DISTANCE:  5K or 10K
ELEVATION GAIN:  994 feet

Both distances require climbing up a steep scree slope, possibly moving around boulders and other rock debris.  If you have trouble with heights, this is not the hike for you.

OLD WAGON ROAD:  A moderate climb up the south wall of Northrup Canyon takes you through several rock falls and through lots of wildflowers.  At the top, switchback 180 degrees, walking along the top of the wall to a view of Steamboat Rock (see above).

LOCATION:  Northrop Canyon Trailhead parking area (Discover Pass required)
DISTANCE:  About 3K, depending on your pathfinding skills
ELEVATION GAIN:  550 feet

NORTHRUP CANYON:  Walk along the floor of this canyon, watching for grouse, quail, hawks, woodpeckers, eagles, owls and plenty of other birds.  Watch for their prey scurrying among the sagebrush and balsamroot.  At 1.5 miles find an abandoned farmhouse.  Turn around here for a 3 mile hike.  Continue left past the farmhouse for an additional 1.5 miles to Northrup Lake.
