EXTREME Challenge
Walker Program
EXTREME CHALLENGE:
THE CHALLENGE: Complete 30 AVA sanctioned volkssporting event trail summits. New books will be available through 2021. Take until the end of 2025 to complete the book, or finish earlier, submit your book of total points and be entered in a roster for the chance to win a gift certificate for REI for most or second most points. All finishers will receive a beautiful 4 Plus style embroidered patch.
To make your quest interesting, we're assigning a points value system for each hike accomplished.
In many cases with Four-Plus Foolhardy Folks trails, an elevation gain, let’s say of 1,200 feet from the trail head to the summit will have a rollercoaster effect of losing and then regaining elevation over the course of the trail. This rollercoaster effect (total cumulative elevation gained) will be taken into consideration, for the total points and be indicated in the Four-Plus Foolhardy Folks publication of all qualifying summit events they will host. To qualify for an EXTREME CHALLENGE II event the cumulative elevation gain from trail head to summit must be a total of 1,000 feet or more.
Just $10 will get you started with the program. To receive your book and begin keeping track of all that effort, contact Dorman Batson:
To make your quest interesting, we're assigning a points value system for each hike accomplished.
- The EXTREME CHALLENGE II/30 SUMMITS works on an accumulative points system where participants will earn 1 point for each 1,000 feet in elevation gained and 1 point for every 10 kilometers in distance to reach the summit of each designated event trail.
- As an example of how this program will work; say the event trail goes to a designated trail summit with an elevation gain of 3,200 feet over 15 kilometers. The total points earned would be 3.2 for elevation and 1.5 for kilometers to equal 4.7 points for that event.
